The employment insurance system has another round of pandemic-related changes set to come into force.
The changes were first unveiled in April’s federal budget and take effect on Sunday for any new E.I. claims.
Among the key changes will be a uniform requirement to have worked 420 hours to qualify for benefits that will be in place for one year, until next September.
The minimum weekly value of benefits will decline to $300 from $500 to match the value of Canada Recovery Benefit payments to workers who don’t qualify for E.I.
The weekly floor is planned to apply to claims made between Sunday and the end of November.
Officials will also begin anew using regional unemployment rates to calculate the value and duration of benefits, and require a medical certificate for anyone applying for E.I. sickness benefits.
