He was a celebrated composer who is best known for creating the sound track for the 1964 film “Zorba the Greek.”
Mikis Theodorakis has died in Athens.
Theodorakis was a member of the Greek resistance in World War II and later served as a member of the Greek Parliament. He was also a leading figure opposing military rule in Greece from 1967 to 1974.
He also wrote the music for the 1973 film “Serpico” and wrote a song cycle called the “Mauthausen Trilogy,” with lyrics based on poems by a concentration camp survivor.
Mikis Theodorakis was 96.
