GM has announced it will reduce production at most assembly plants in North America this month because of the ongoing semi-conductor chip shortage.

The biggest American automaker will shut down production next week at its plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana and one in Mexico; both of which build pickups.

The nearly 3,00 employees at the company’s CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario will be idled the weeks of September 20 and 27.

In total, General Motors is temporarily putting the brakes on production at 8 facilities this month because it, like other automakers, cannot get its hands on enough microchips.

Ford has said it will also cut truck production next week, while Toyota said last month it’s reducing global production for September by 40%.
