ONTARIO'S COVID CASE LOAD TICKS HIGHER ONCE AGAIN

Ontario is reporting 689 new cases of COVID-19 as the 4th wave continues to surge in the province.

Of those cases, 552 are in people who are either not vaccinated against the virus, not fully vaccinated or their status is unknown. 137 cases are in fully vaccinated people.

The province’s 7-day running average is now at 534 up from 518 yesterday.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 212 people are currently in hospital due to COVID-19.

There are currently 130 patients in intensive care with a virus-related illness, 123 of whom are not fully vaccinated or have an uncertain immunization status.

The vaccination effort continues to tick upward. The province says 82% of eligible residents have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine with 74.6% fully inoculated with two shots.
