Toronto mayor John Tory has announced that city workers will have to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The vaccinations apply to more than 37,000 city workers. They’ll have to be fully vaccinated by October 30 and show a proof of vaccination.
Employees will be forced to disclose their vaccination status by September 13.
“Protecting our employees from COVID-19 as best we can helps protect them and their families and loved ones,” said Tory at city hall. “Very important, as well, it helps protects members of the public who our employees interact with on a daily basis as a part of their jobs.”
There are some exceptions to the new mandate–TTC workers and Toronto Police are exempt as they have their own boards and governance structures but Tory has urged them to go along with the requirement.
Those with medical reasons preventing them from being vaccinated will also be accommodated.
