It’s been a big part of Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine roll out, but the AstraZeneca shot has yet to be approved for use in the United States.
Representatives of the British-Swedish drugmaker are hoping to change that.
They say they intend to seek U.S. authorization for the AstraZeneca vaccine in the second half of this year.
In its second quarter financial results, AstraZeneca reported the company and its sub-licensees delivered more than 700-million doses of the coronavirus vaccine to over 170 countries in the first half of 2021.
This total includes 80-million doses that went to the COVAX initiative for low and middle income countries.
Canada, United Kingdom, European Union and World Health Organization have already authorized use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
