Mississauga’s Bianca Andreescu is the latest Canadian tennis star to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics.

Andreescu, the 1999 U.S. Open Champion, announced on social media that she won’t be taking part in the Games set to open in 10 days.

“I have been dreaming of representing Canada at the Olympics since I was a little girl,” Andreescu said in her post. “ut with all the challenges we are facing as it relates to the pandemic, I know that deep in my heart, this is the right decision to make for myself.”

She adds she plans on competing in the next Olympics, which take place in Paris in 2024.

Both Milos Raonic and Denis Shapovalov had previously announced they wouldn’t be taking part in the Games.
