There are reports that cabinet is meeting this afternoon to discuss a possible earlier move to step two of the reopening to Wednesday, June 30th, rather than July 2nd. This means step three could also be fast-tracked by a few days.
Premier Doug Ford didn’t confirm nor deny the news.
“We’ll be talking to cabinet but we’ll also be speaking with Dr. Williams and Minister Christine Elliott is in conversations with the health table and we’ll get their advice and then we’re going to get moving as soon as possible,” said Premier Ford.
If approved by cabinet, an announcement is expected tomorrow.
Many health experts feel it’s safe to loosen restrictions now, including Dr. Alon Vaisman, Infectious diseases specialist at University Health Network who spoke with Libby Znaimer on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back.
“All the data that we have so far from Canada and other nations points to the fact that where we’re at with vaccinations suggest that we can open earlier.”
Mayor John Tory also told Fight Back he expects the next phase will come a few days earlier.
