The Head of Canada’s Navy has apologized for golfing with Jonathan Vance, the former chief of defense staff, who is being investigated over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Vice Admiral Craig Baines says he regrets the golf game because it could be seen a display of support for Vance.

Also in the group was the Vice-chief of Defense staff Lt.-Gen. Mike Rouleau who has the power to direct military investigations.  Rouleau’s power was recently flagged in an occasionally scathing report on the military justice system by a retired Supreme Court Judge.

The Defense Ministry says the golf game was unacceptable and that the minister would be speaking with acting defense chief Lt.-Gen. Wayne Eyre about Rouleau and Baines.
