Days after criticism came from public and political circles, Air Canada executives say they’re returning 2020 bonuses.
The bonuses were paid out during a time when employees were furloughed and the airline was negotiating a bailout package with the government due largely shuttered operations due to the pandemic.
A statement from Air Canada says the bonuses are being returned due to “public disappointment.”
The President and CEO and the company’s executive vice-presidents say they’ll return the money.
However, there was no mention made to whether mid-level managers will return their shared of the bonuses. A total of $10-million was handed out in bonuses with $8-million of that money earmarked for mid-level managers.
