He was the American broadcaster who brought classical music from the concert hall to the home.
Martin Bookspan was known to millions of classical music fans as the voice of the New York Philharmonic and “Live From Lincoln Center.”
He began his career as a student at Harvard, where he conducted his first on-air interview with Aaron Copland.
Over the next half a century, he was was affiliated with some of the most venerable institutions on the American cultural scene including the Boston Symphony, the New York Phil and the Metropolitan Opera.
Martin Bookspan died of congestive heart failure as his home in Florida. He was 94.
