Canada’s procurement minister says she is negotiating contracts to nail down supplies of COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.

Anita Anand, member of parliament for Oakville, says while her main focus remains getting as many initial doses of COVID vaccine as possible into Canada as quickly as possible, there are two other priorities for the coming year.

“The first is the work that we’re doing to ensure that we have the contract in place for boosters and the next generation of vaccine, so we are actively planning for the 2022 buy,” Anand explained.

Anand explained getting booster shots will require new or amended contracts as well.

And what about development of booster shots?

Dr. Iris Gorfinkel is a family physician and founder of Prime Health Clinical Research.

She told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with guest host Jane Brown, scientists with all of the COVID vaccine makers are looking at creating booster shots.

“The golden goose here is to have a booster shot that would be a universal booster shot against all future variants, however right now they’re working on specific booster shots against specific variants,” Dr. Gorfinkel explained. Listen to the full interview by clicking here.

Recently, Pfizer researchers released study information suggesting their two shot vaccine is effective against COVID-19 for up to six months.
