Reuters News has named the first woman in its 170-year old history, as its new editor-in-chief.
47-year old Alessandra Galloni, who is based in London, will replace Stephen Adler, who has been the newsroom’s leader for the past decade. He’s retiring at the end of the month.
Galloni became Reuters’ global managing editor in 2015 after more than a decade at the Wall Street Journal.
Reuters employs some 2,500 reporters in 200 locations around the world and is part of the larger Thomson Reuters Corp., which competes with other news services like The Associated Press and Bloomberg.
