Prince Phillip has died at the age of 99.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the news announcing, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”
Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families in Greece and educated in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
He joined the British Royal Navy in 1939 and married the future Queen Elizabeth in 1947.
Over the course of his tenure as the longest serving consort in British history, he performed more than 22,000 solo Royal duties.
This past February Philip was admitted to hospital in London and treated for an infection. Last month he underwent a successful procedure for a heart condition.
Prince Philip passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
