After only a few days in operation, the City of Toronto’s COVID-19 vaccination facility at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre is being paused due to a lack of vaccines.

The original plan was to vaccinate through Friday, January 22nd, but the province has ordered an immediate halt.

All appointments over the next three days have been cancelled.

In a news release, the city says: “As requested by the Ministry of Health and the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force, the City and Toronto Public Health established a proof-of-concept clinic to vaccinate up to 250 people per day. The clinic applied the Province of Ontario’s ethical framework for COVID-19 vaccine prioritization and was to be available to City staff or those working for agencies that work in frontline shelters, including harm-reduction and Streets to Homes staff.”

The city says its immunization task force will continue planning for the city wide rollout of vaccines and plan for next steps for when a fresh vaccine supply arrives.
