Politicians of different stripes rarely agree, but they appear to in the case of Donald Trump.
The day after his supporters carried out a violent assault on the Capitol, Democrats and Republicans alike feel he’s unfit to remain in office with just 13 days until Inauguration Day.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer is calling on Cabinet to remove Trump, saying the attack ”was an insurrection against the United States, incited by the president. This president should not hold office one day longer.”
Schumer adds Vice-President Mike Pence and the Cabinet should invoke the 25th Amendment and immediately have Trump removed.
”If the vice-president and the Cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress should reconvene to impeach the president.”
Republican Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger agrees.
”The president is unfit. And the president is unwell,” he said in a video posted to Twitter.
The 25 Amendment allows for the vice-president and majority of Cabinet to declare the president unfit for office.
