The insurance industry’s annual list of most stolen vehicles is out.
The most popular vehicle among auto thieves is the 2018 Honda CR-V, with 350 stolen so far in 2020.
A 2017 Lexus RX350 is the second most stolen with 258 taken, followed closely by the 2017 Honda CR-V with 247 thefts.
With more vehicles equipped with new technology, such as keyless entry fobs, thieves don’t even have to get into an owner’s residence.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada suggests keeping fobs secure and away from entrances to avoid electronic theft.
”Keeping your key fob protected inside your house either in a pouch or a protective box so it doesn’t allow the radio transmission frequency to emit from that so it cannot be cloned,” points out the IBC’s Bryan Gast.
Police also suggest those with multiple vehicles to park the high-end one (in a garage or) at the top of their driveway with the other vehicle behind it, and to consider installing motion sensors.
