Calling it one of his proudest moments, Ontario Premier Doug Ford stood beside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to jointly announce that N95 medical masks will be produced in Canada starting next year.

A beaming Doug Ford calls it a historic day.

“I know that Ontario will never have to depend on another country for the N95 mask we need to protect our nurses and doctors,  our front line heroes,” said Ford.

Trudeau says it ensures that Canada is never again at the mercy of unreliable foreign suppliers of PPE during a pandemic.

“We will be able to cover domestic supply but because Canada has never brought in limits or protectionist measures on ensuring that our products can help the world as well,” Trudeau said

“I know that was a part of the attractive nature of building this plant here to ensure safety for Canadians and safety for front line workers right around the world.”

Ottawa and Queen’s Park are each kicking in $23 million to help increase production capacity at the 3M plant in Brockville. The N95 masks used by frontline health care workers were in short supply.
