A new interactive map shows COVID-19 cases across Toronto and highlights geographic hot spots by postal code. “Our data confirm that COVID-19 is present in every single neighbourhood in Toronto,” said Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa. The highest number of cases are in the northwest and northeast corners of the city. where long term care cases could factor into the numbers. The map represents where patients live, not necessarily where they caught the virus.
Mayor John Tory says the information should not be used to stigmatize neighbourhoods. “It was information that I requested Dr. de Villa bring forward as part of a presentation to help us fight the spread of the virus and to support people affected by the virus,” said Tory. But he cautions the information should not be used to stigmatize neighbourhoods. Tory says this marks the first time this kind of information has been made available in Ontario during the pandemic.
