First-time novelists Ian Williams and Megan Gail Coles are among the finalists for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. Organizers announced the six writers on the short list for the $100,000 prize at a Toronto event Monday. Williams is nominated for Reproduction about a cross-cultural family set in his hometown of Brampton. Coles is a contender with Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club billed as a Newfoundland Gothic for the 21st century. Rounding out the short list are authors Michael Crummey for The Innocents, Steven Price for Lampedusa and David Bezmozgis for Immigrant City.
