From the file of first world problems…
Commuters riding the Toronto Transit Commission are complaining about how the agency is pronouncing road names. The computer voice that calls the stops out on buses is having a problem with the word avenue. A new recording pronounces it more like ah-VEE’-new. The old pronunciation was AH’-ven-oo which officials felt sounded too American. The new pronunciation was supposed to be the more Canadian-sounding AH’-veh-new.The T-T-C reverts to the old pronunciation on August 4th.
