Close to 2,400 Ontario public servants are taking voluntary buyouts from the Doug Ford PC’s as the government tackles a multi billion-dollar deficit. Treasury Board President Peter Bethlenfalvy says the departures will bring an immediate cost $190 million but will save $215-million dollars a year by 2021-22. Bethlenfalvy says managing the overall size of the Ontario Public Service is a key element of the government’s plan to deal with an 11.7-billion-dollar deficit. The packages were offered for about three months starting last December, and employees have until the end of this year to leave their positions.
