The political landscape in Washington looks different today. Both sides made some significant wins in yesterday’s mid term elections.
Democrats won enough seats to flip the House that will help shape the nation’s political agenda for the next two years. Republicans did manage to hold on to their Senate majority. President Donald Trump tweeted overnight “Tremendous succces…Mr. Trump has magic about him.. …he’s an astonishing vote getter.” House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said the election was about restoring the Constitution and providing a balance to the Trump administration. In one key race in Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz held off Democratic rising star Beto O’Rourke. American ex pats and political junkies gathered at venues across Canada to watch the midterms. In Toronto, Mark Feigenberg, chairman of Republicans Overseas Canada, said the Democrats’ winning control of the House of Representatives is a setback for Donald Trump’s agenda. But some Democrats said the vote wasn’t strong enough to show disapproval of Trump.
