To celebrate the largest expansion of the Toronto subway system in almost 40 years, the TTC announced the entire transit system will be free on Sunday.
It will be the first day of service for the new Line 1 extension into York Region in the northern part of the Greater Toronto Area.
Making the Saturday morning announcement of free service were Mayor John Tory, TTC Chair Josh Colle and Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca.
The extension has six new stations and 8.6 kilometres of new track,
Riders will get from the new subway terminus at Vaughan Metrololitan Centre to the Sheppard West station in about 14 minutes, and to Union Station in 42 minutes.
For the first time ever, students will be ableto take rapid transit to York University.
