Famed composer and experimental music pioneer, Pauline Oliveros has died at the age of 84.
She was known for her embrace of new technology in creating music.
In a career that spanned six decades, Oliveros made major contributions to music theory, and influenced a wide range of fellow musicians.
Much of her music employed the concepts of what she called “deep listening” and “sonic awareness.”
They were intended to help musicians and listeners feel the difference between passively hearing sound and actively listening to it.
