A record price of 11.7 million dollars U-S was paid for a David Hockney painting on Thursday.

Described as a “monumental landscape,“ the painting, `Woldgate Woods 24, 25, and 26 October 2006,“ is 3 metres wide and depicts trees near Bridlington, East Yorkshire, England.

Sothoby`s auctioneers say it`s a record for the 79 year-old Hockney, breaking his previous record of 7.9 million-dollars U-S for a work that was purchased in 2009.
