A private member’s bill in Parliament would see a change to gender-neutral wording in Canada’s national anthem.
If passed, the wording in the second line would change from “in all thy sons command” to “in all of us command.” But the change has caused some testy accuastions among Liberal and Conservative MPs.
The bill is the work of Ottawa-Vanier Liberal Mauril Belanger. Balanger suffers from the disease ALS.
Regina Conservative MP Andrew Scheer, the former House Speaker, accuses the Liberals of using Belanger and his illness to politicize the issue, while a Liberal member is accusing the Conservatives of blocking the bill.
