A sold out crowd at Rogers Centre had a good time for the most part, but it wasn’t the outcome they hoped for when the Blue Jays lost their home-opener 8 – 7 to the Boston Red Sox Friday night.
Last year’s American League MVP Josh Donaldson hit a grand slam home run in the 4th inning and the Blue Jays were ahead 7 – 2.
But Brock Holt took advantage of the Toronto bullpen, hitting a grand slam for the Red Sox and driving in 5 runs.
Manager John Gibbons says in spite of a shakey start to the season for his bullpen, he expects them to soon fall in line and be one of the team’s strengths.
The Jays have now lost their last five home openers.
