Carol Channing and Barbra Streisand made the role famous, now a man has been cast in the lead in a Florida production of “Hello Dolly”.
The Wick Theatre in Boca Raton is staging a production of the iconic Broadway musical that will feature Lee Roy Reams in the role of Dolly Levi.
It’s believed to be the first U.S. production to feature a male playing Dolly. Reims actually starred opposite Carol Channing two times in the musical.
To make such a dramatic change, the Boca Raton theatre had to get special permission from the composer, Jerry Herman.
