It was an emotional day Sunday in London, England.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, as well as other members of the Royal Family and veterans of the armed forces were in Westminster Abbey this morning for a special service of Thanksgiving as part of the events marking the 70th anniversary of VE Day … the day the second world war in Europe ended.

The Archbishop of Canterbury said that veterans had ensured “victory over the greatest darkness of the 20th Century.”

Londoners then gathered to watch a parade passing through Westminster to Buckingham Palace. It included some veterans being pushed in wheelchairs, and a flypast by the Royal Airforce’s Red Arrows and vintage WW2 aircraft.
