NO NIAGARA MERLOT THIS YEAR, ALL BECAUSE OF THE POLAR VORTEX

There will be a scarcity of a couple of wines from Niagara Region for awhile, and we can blame the Polar Vortex.

Because of the recent harsh winter, there will not be any 2014 Merlot from Niagara.

The long, cold winter had a negative effect on grape vines, with some surviving better than others.

Quantities of sauvignon blanc will also be in short supply.

Polar Vortex winds pushed friged air further south than normal in parts of Canada last winter, causing damage to many of the more fragile types of grape vines.

One winery owner says they work in a business where Mother Nature is in charge.
