The Toronto-bound lanes of the Burlington Skyway will remain closed over the long holiday weekend.

That’s the decision by engineers who have been checking out the big bridge after a crash involving a dump truck on Thursday.

The truck’s box appeared to be raised, and struck a bridge beam as well as scaffolding used by crews doing maintenance.

The Skyway is part of the Queen Elizabeth Way, and is used by thousands of commuters, trucks and tourists every day travelling between Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara.

The Ministry of Transportation will update the bridge’s status on Monday afternoon.

The driver of the truck, 34-year old Sukhvinder Singh Rai of Brampton, has  been charged with impaired driving, and will appear in court later this month.
