Oscar winner Maximilian Schell has died.
Schell, one of Austria’s most famous actors, passed away early Saturday at a hospital in Innsbruck at the age of 83.
According to his agent, the actor died from complications related to “a serious and sudden illness.”
He had been taken to the hospital after collapsing on the set of a television production.
Schell was the first German-language actor to win an Academy Award in the post-war era.
His best actor Oscar was for his role in the 1961 Stanley Kramer classic “Judgment at Nuremberg.”
