A memorial service was held today for the victims of a fire at a seniors residence in eastern Quebec.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General David Johnston were joined by about 900 other people in a church in the small town of L’Isle Verte.

Mr. Harper says the tragedy was something everyone can relate to because we all have elderly relatives.

The total number of victims in the fire is expected to reach 32, with 24 confirmed dead and 8 still listed as missing.
