There could be a legal battle brewing over some high-calorie treats that have similar names — one of them at the CNE here in Toronto.

Yesterday on opneing day at the Ex, Toronto’s Le Dolci Bakery and Epic Burger and Waffles introduced the Cronut Burger —  a beef patty and cheese wedged between two cinnamon-sugar coated “Cronuts” topped with maple bacon jam.

The Cronut –  a doughnut-croissant hybrid –  was invented by New York chef Dominique Ansel, and launched at his Manhatten bakery in May.

He trademarked the name “Cronut” and his lawyers have cautioned others from using it.

A manager at the New York bakery says they’re aware of the Toronto concotion, but wouldn’t confirm if lawyers are involved yet.
