The International Committee of the Red Cross is marking its 150th anniversary of helping victims of violence and war this year.
The organization began as a Swiss businessman’s response to the abandonment of wounded soldiers on the battlefield in northern Italy.
President Peter Maurer says the I-C-R-C is adapting to the changing nature of conflicts, but holding to its principles of impartiality as it brings aid and humanity to those who suffer the pain and deprivations of war.
