In an open letter to public elementary and high school teachers today, outgoing premier Dalton McGuinty suggested that after nearly a year of negotiations, the provincial government has waited long enough for teachers to reach a deal with the province.
McGuinty says he won’t commit to forcing new contracts on Ontario’s public school teachers but says his government has a plan and will reveal more about it tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Tory leader Tim Hudak says the Liberals should impose new contracts before students return to class next week.
Teachers have been holding rotating one-day strikes to protest Bill 115, a controversial new law that allows for a wage freeze and cuts to their benefits.
