MAYOR TORY JOINS CARP IN OPPOSITION TO ENDING DOOR TO DOOR MAIL DELIVERY

Toronto’s Mayor doesn’t think that Canada Post will be able to end door to door mail delivery in all areas of Canada, including downtown Toronto.

“In the downtown neighbourhoods, where are they going to put the super mailboxes?” Tory asks while on a CP24 program, “It’s been easier to do in suburban areas where they’ve designed the neighbourhood with a place for the super mailbox in mind.”

John Tory also has the same concern which has been voiced by CARP – A New Vision of Aging.

“What are they going to do about seniors, frail seniors, who aren’t able to go to the super mailbox to get their mail?” Tory questions.

In fact, CARP members say door to door mail delivery will be a federal election issue next year.  Meantime, Mayor Tory has his own proposal to reduce costs at Canada Post.

“I would quite frankly, given the lesser dependence on snail mail, as they call it now, to see them reduce the days on which they do deliveries, as opposed to eliminating door to door delivery at all,” Tory offers, “They could save some money.  But I think that practicality is going to stand in the way of what they want to do anyway and they’ll have to reconsider their own plans.”
