Pay increases for Ontario’s public sector executives will be subject to some new rules –  after the government took some heat – over controversial raises.

Treasury Board President Liz Sandals has informed agencies that the province must now approve the parameters they use – when deciding on appropriate salaries and caps on salaries – as well as the overall rate of increase for all executives.

As a provincial wage freeze lifts, all broader public sector agencies have until September – to post their proposals for new executive compensation packages – under the new framework.

Some organizations will be allowed to boost salaries – but their annual raises cannot go over the Ontario public sector wage increase trend – which is set this year at 1.3 percent.
