As expected, Ontario’s top doctor is recommending that the province extend remaining mask mandates in high settings like hospitals, long-term care and public transit.

“We will continue to mandate masking where the most vulnerable patients are in our shelters, in our children treatment centres, our hospitals, long term care facilities and in public transit and we will maintain that level of masking after April 27th for probably 28 days and then further reassess at that point,” said Dr. Kieran Moore.

Speaking with CP24, Dr. Moore says the next couple of weeks may be tough from a staffing vantage points as record numbers of health care workers are off the job with COVID.

Asked about taking his mask off during Monday’s COVID briefing after he’d just returned from a Caribbean vacation, Dr. Moore says he didn’t consider the space at Queen’s Park “public” because it was open only to member of the media.

Federal quarantine rules don’t allow people to remove masks in public spaces after international travel.

As for Easter Weekend, Dr. Moore urges us to keep gatherings small and outdoors, wear a mask, test ahead and stay home is you have symptoms.
