After being called out for his silence on the truckers’ Freedom Convoy in Ottawa, Premier Doug Ford is speaking out.

In a statement, he has some of the behaviour has no place in Ontario or Canada.

The Premier says he was extremely disturbed to see some people desecrating national monuments and waving swastikas and other symbols of hate during the massive protest against vaccine mandates this weekend.

“Today, Ontario is beginning to ease some public health measures, the first step in returning to normal,” Ford’s statement continued.

“All Ontarians are united in their desire to put this pandemic behind us and return to the life we knew before COVID-19.”

The protest shrunk Monday to a few hundred people outside Parliament Hill but they say they won’t leave until all COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Meantime, Liberal MPP John Fraser tweeted that Ford’s statement doesn’t go far enough.

“What I can’t understand is what is stopping you from standing with the people of Ottawa by saying to the protesters: Enough is enough. It’s time for you to leave,” Fraser tweeted. “It’s truly puzzling.”
