He brought us the authentic rockabilly of the American south in the late 50s – then stayed in Canada, to rule the roost at ‘Le Coq d’Or’ and ‘The Hawk’s Nest’ on the Yonge Street Strip, while mentoring generations of young Canadians who created ‘The Toronto Sound’, and so much more.  Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins is turning 87 on January 10th, and I’ve got his best songs in a 90 minute extended feature this Sunday – the 9th.
In the show’s first hour, we’ll have the fascinating and varied events and personalities who made headlines ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ – from Johnny Cash, to the Supremes’ first and last recordings, San Francisco’s ‘Human Be-In’ that launched ‘the summer of love’, David Bowie’s farewell, and the ‘Story Behind the Song‘ that pushed people’s buttons so hard, the FBI looked into the fuss. It’s the incredible story of ‘Louie Louie‘ – and I’ll play two famous versions of it.
