Coming up this Saturday at 1pm on Finding Your Bliss, Life Coach and Bliss Expert Judy Librach is joined by award-winning journalist and anchor, Farah Nasser!
Farah Nasser brings extensive experience to her role as Anchor of Global National, Global’s flagship national evening newscast, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as well as many Global News specials.
With over two decades of experience, she has reported on major events such as the death of Queen Elizabeth II from London, Joe Biden’s election win from Washington, the London, ON terror attack that killed a Muslim family, and the Toronto van attack.
She was the first journalist to be granted a one-on-one with PM
Justin Trudeau after the country reopened after the pandemic lockdown in 2020 and has moderated key political debates including the main 2018 Ontario provincial election debate and the only 2018 Toronto mayoral broadcast debate.
She is considered a trailblazer for being one of the first
Canadian television journalists to challenge the status
quo in her reporting on race and equity spearheading
the Global News series #FirstTimeIWasCalled, the
television special Living In Colour: Being Black in
Canada, which won an Edward R. Murrow Award, and
the History Channel’s four-part special, Canada
Uncovered, which investigated past experiences of
marginalized peoples. Nasser is also a back-to-back
winner of the RTNDA Sam Ross Award for her viral
commentaries 93 Killed a Day at the Barrel of a Gun
(2018) and What if the fighting in Aleppo was happening
in Toronto? (2017) which was viewed 3.5 million times
and used as a teaching aid in schools to explain the
Syrian conflict.
Nasser began her career with Rogers TV and has held
various roles with Newstalk 1010, Toronto 1, A-Channel
News, City TV, and CP24 before joining Global News. A
graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Radio and
Television Arts program, she also attended the
University of Westminster in London, England and later
interned for CNN in New Delhi, India.
When not reporting on the day’s headlines, Nasser
spends her time volunteering in the community.
Passionate about championing the rights of women and
girls, she is the celebrated ambassador for Plan Canada
and a member of the International Women’s Forum, an
invitation-only network of the most accomplished
women in the world. She also sits on the board of
directors of the Canadian Journalism Foundation and
serves as a mentor for the Canadian Association of
Journalists and for CivicAction, a non-profit that brings
together senior and emerging leaders from diverse
backgrounds.
A sought-after speaker, Nasser delivered the popular
TEDx Talk, The Power of Intellectual Humility, and
regularly speaks at community events and has worked
with organizations such as Journalists for Human
Rights, the Aga Khan Foundation, and the Economic
Club of Canada.
Nasser lives in Toronto with her husband and two
children. She has a passion for travelling and has
instilled that in her children taking her young family to
several regions in North and South America, Asia and
Europe.
