As the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer famously said “time and tide wait for no man.”
But along the Norwich Coast, on the English Channel, you will at least know when your missing the tide.
A giant bell that murmurs when the tide comes in and chimes when the tide goes out has been installed on the beach at Happisburgh.
The Time and Tide Bell is the creation of sculptor Marcus Vergette and is one of 13 planned for the UK coastline – all intended to highlight rising sea levels and global warming.
The sculptor says bells have always been a clarion call to action and are more critical than ever in this age of climate change.
