The co-lead vocalist and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac has died.

Christine McVie has died at 79 after a short illness. No other details were given by her family.

In 1998, he announced she was leaving the band due to a fear of flying and panic attacks.

She was somewhat retired for several years before releasing a solo album.

McVie was a steady presence and personality in a band known for its frequent lineup changes and volatile personalities.

During its peak commercial years, from 1975-80, the band sold tens of millions of records.

Their 1977 album Rumours – inspired by the break-ups of the McVies and the band’s other couple, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks – became one of the biggest selling of all time, with more than 40 million copies sold worldwide.

A statement by the band said of McVie: “We were so lucky to have a life with her.”
