While welcoming the province’s decision to expand vaccine eligibility to those 18 and older beginning Tuesday, Mayor John Tory worries about supply and is letting the province know about his concerns.
“The demand for appointments created by these welcomed changes to eligibility can only be met through an increase in vaccine supply in the coming weeks,” explained Tory. “We do not book appointments for which there is no vaccine.”
And after two weeks of sending half the supply of doses to hot spots including Toronto, the province is now adjusting the distribution to a per-capita basis.
Six-in-ten eligible Toronto residents have now been vaccinated with first dose.
City-run mass immunization clinics are 97% booked for this week, but there are still about 17,000 appointments available
