This year’s inductees into the US National Film Registry include a record number of female directors and film makers of colour as well as a new crop of movies ranging from a silent short film thriller, an acclaimed Batman Film and and some classics.

“The Blues Brothers” starred John Belushi and Canada’s Dan Aykroyd.

It along with the “The Dark Knight,” “Grease” and 22 other moves are among those tapped for preservation this year.

Over the years, the library has selected movies for preservation because of their cultural, historic and artist importance. Since the registry began in 1988, some 800 films have been added.
