JOSEPH SHABALALA, FOUNDER OF LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO, DIES AT 78

The founder of the South African group that helped introduce Zulu music to the world has died.
Joseph Shabalala founded and directed the choral group known as Ladysmith Black Mambazo which won five Grammy Awards. They first came together in 1960.
They shot to prominence when they were featured heavily in Paul Simon’s “Graceland” album. That was released in 1986. The collaboration with Simon launched them to international recognition.
Shabalala died in hospital in Pretoria, South Africa. The group is currently touring in the U-S.
He was 78 years old.
