A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise money to rebuild historic York Memorial Collegiate.

Former MP Alan Tonks and his son Chris, a trustee with the Toronto District School Board among others, hope to collect $25,000 to restore some of the school’s historic art and its stained glass windows. In addition, principal Donna Drummond says they’re asking the public to donate everyday items that students need now, like backpacks, school supplies, gym clothes and shoes. Two separate fires burned through the Toronto high school earlier this week and parts of the roof and floor collapsed. The Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of both fires. Toronto District School Board officials say it’s unclear what the future of the school will be and plans are underway to accommodate its 900 students.
