During the last election, the Liberals promised to give vets the ”option” of taking a tax-free lump sum payment or a lifetime pension.
The changes would give them that choice, which would mean a maximum tax-free payment of $1,150-a-month.
In addition, the government will introduce another tax-free-pain and suffering award on top of the existing one.
That too could either be taken as a lump sum or monthly payment up to $1,500-a-month, depending on level of disability.
Veterans Affairs Minister Seamus O’Regan says he cannot guarantee the average vet will receive the same or more compared to the old pension act which was abolished in 2006.
